Tilenga Safari Lodge

Tilenga Safari Lodge is set right on the banks of the Albert Nile, inside Murchison Falls National Park. Every tented room and cottage is angled toward the water, so the river is the first thing you see at sunrise and the last light you watch fade at dusk.

Wide private verandas let you take it all in slowly — hippos surfacing below, fish eagles calling overhead, and the long orange light that gives these evenings their name. This is a lodge built around the river, not merely beside it.

Our team is small, local, and genuinely warm. By your second morning the staff know your name, how you take your coffee, and which corner of the deck catches the best light. Nothing here is rushed.

From the kitchen to the campfire, every detail is looked after by people who grew up on this stretch of the Nile and take real pride in sharing it — the kind of unhurried care that turns a stay into a memory.

The park begins at our doorstep, just 1.7km from Tangi Gate. Set out on early game drives for elephant, giraffe, lion and buffalo, cruise the Nile toward the base of the Falls, or cast a line for Nile perch — all led by guides who know this landscape intimately.

Because we sit on the quiet northern boundary, our guests often have the tracks and the river almost to themselves in the golden first hours, when the wildlife is most active and the light is at its finest.

Thatched roofs, canvas walls and wide verandas — the lodge is built with the landscape rather than against it. Elevated tents and en-suite cottages blend into the bush, close enough to hear the savanna at night, comfortable enough to sleep deeply.

It is a place designed for slow mornings and long, orange evenings: a fire on the river deck, dinner under the stars, and the quiet knowledge that the whole of Murchison Falls is right outside.
